Jellyfish in these specialized aquariums actually live longer than in the wild and will typically live an average of 1-2 years. Many of our customers have even kept them a little longer. Once they have completed their life cycle you can simply purchase replacement jellyfish from Jellyfish Art.

During maintenance the aquarium walls can be wiped clean using the included cleaning sponge and any debris can be removed using the included pipette. Small water changes once per week is basically the main maintenance duty. As the tank matures this can be extended to 2-3 times a month.

How often do you have to feed them?

The easy to use dry 30ml bag of nutritious JellyFood included with your kit should last about one year. Additional bags of food can be purchased for $15 when needed.

Feeding should be once a day, a day or two may be skipped per week with no issues.

Is there some filtration included? What sort of maintenance is required?

The aquarium filtration is all neatly hidden behind the back plate within the aquarium itself. The filter area is in the back and has a Bio-Sponge filter. The aquariums also incorporate chemical filtration via the Chemi-pure Blue nano packets.

Can you put any other type of saltwater items in or increase the amount of jellyfish?

Jellyfish should be kept in a species-specific environment. You can, however, add 3-4 blue legged hermit crabs to your jellyfish aquarium. They make a great companions with jellies and will actually help eat little bits of food that make it to the bottom. You add more jellyfish as well if you desire. This aquarium model can house up to 6 jellyfish in total.

The black bio sponge should not be washed clean as this is the home for good bacteria that create your ecosystem and remove waste. When doing a partial water change you can swish the sponge in the original tank water you're removing to dislodge loose debris.
