Ancient Persia. Nishapur, c. 10th - 13th Century AD. A beautiful Nishapur aqua-blue glazed ceramic oil lamp. The top is trefoil in shape, with narrow spout for a wick, with a long, thin strap handle descending from the top to the saucer shaped drip pan. H: 4.25 in. In a wonderful state of preservation, with some minor chipping, with well-preserved glaze. Great iridescence and coloration throughout. For a similar example, see the Metropolitan Museum of Arts website, accession number: 37.40.19. Provenance: Ex Vero Beach, Florida private collection, acquired before 2003.
