Product Description
Ancient Rome. Augustus Caesar, 27 BC - 14 AD. A fourrée denarius struck 15-13 BC at Lugdunum mint. An ancient counterfeit made 2,000 years ago! The front depicts the portrait of Augustus facing right, with the Latin inscription AVGVSTVS DIVI F around. The back depicts a bull butting right, with the inscription IMP X. 20mm, 2.67 grams. Ref: RIC 167a; RSC 137 for coin type. The ancient counterfeit fourrée silver plating is lost to history, only the copper core remains. Very Fine. Nice portrait!
