Portrait of Alexander the Great! Ptolemaic Kings of Egypt. Ptolemy II Philadelphos (285-246 BC). A bronze obol, Alexandria mint, struck mid/late 260s-246 BC. The front depicts the diademed head of the deified Alexander facing right, wearing an elephant skin headdress. The back shows an eagle standing left on a thunderbolt with wings displayed; Λ between legs, BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΠTOΛEMAIOY. Ref: CPE B250; Svoronos 482; SNG Copenhagen for type. 23mm, 12.20 g. Green-brown surfaces, patches of red and black encrustation on reverse. Very Fine.
